Toyota Motor Industries Poland (TMIP) has started production of a new 1.4 litre diesel engine supplied to assembly plants in the UK, France, Turkey and South Africa.
The engine is used in the UK-built Auris, French made Yaris and South African Corolla and production volume is 70,000 units a year.
The engine has a new piezo injector, enhanced exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler efficiency and a stainless steel exhaust manifold with an optional diesel particulate filter (DPF).
The engine is built on the same lines as the current two- and 2.2 litre D-4D engines.
In 2009, TMIP produced around 69,500 units. Toyota also has a gearbox plant in Poland.
