Subaru of America will axe the seven seat Tribeca next year, a local report said.

After selling 78,000 units of the three-row crossover, the automaker will deliver its last vehicles to US dealers in February 2014, website jalopnik reported. Subaru said it would "return to the mid-size SUV segment with a three-row vehicle in the future."

"Hopefully it's better looking next time," jalopnik opined.

(Pre-facelift) versions in both left and right hand drive were sold here in the UK and Europe from 2006-2010. The range lacked the diesel engine option essential for volume sales this side of the Atlantic and the three litre, six cylinder 'boxer' petrol engine was criticised for high fuel consumption. Third row availability and packaging also attracted comment.
