Volkswagen unit Skoda Auto will cut production of its smaller cars starting in 2010, the Czech carmaker's union said in a weekly newsletter.

Skoda will cut production of the Fabia model to two daily shifts from three and will also cancel most Friday shifts, according to a Reuters report citing the newsletter.

It will run only one daily shift instead of two building the Roomster.

Skoda had been expected to cut production after an order boost in recent months helped by car scrapping subsidies in many western markets including Germany.
