September wholesale vehicle sales in Colombia fell 23% to 16,017 units, according to Comite Automotor data.

It was the 21st consecutive month in which sales fell year on year as the global recession continues to take its toll on the industry.

For the first nine months of the year, vehicle sales were down 22% to 128,935 units.

General Motors, as usual, was the top seller, shifting 5,101 units of its Chevrolet brand, down from 6,650 in September 2008.

Renault was number two, selling 2,654 units, a rise on the 2,608 vehicles it sold in September 2008.

As reported by just-auto in July, Colombian car sales in the first six months of 2009 fell  22.4%.
