Saab is declining to comment on reports it will work with BMW on parts and technology.

Widespread media comments are indicating a deal could be inked this Wednesday (29 September) that could see Saab use BMW engines and transmissions.

However, the Swedish automaker is remaining silent on the speculation, contenting itself to noting it was aware of the reports.

"We have seen the speculation - it started in the summer when the two names came up in the media," a Saab spokesman in Sweden told just-auto.

"We always say we are discussing with various partners. We are now an individual, so we have the freedom to do what we want."

The spokesman added last week's announcement of the formation of a jointly-owned company with American Axle Manufacturing, to develop electric all-wheel drive systems, was an example of its ability to create partnerships.
