The new SM7 goes on sale next month

Several images of the forthcoming SM7 have been released by Renault Samsung Motors (RSM). The second generation of this big sedan is due to go on sale in South Korea from July. It was previewed by the SM7 concept at the Seoul motor show back in March.

In its home market, the new SM7 shall challenge the Genesis sedan, which in South Korea does not carry Hyundai badging. GM Korea's Alpheon, another brandless big car, is a further rival, as shall be next year's Kia K9.

A supposed Renault derivative of the new SM7, which is said to be codenamed L47 and which might revive the Vel Satis badge, is said by some to be in the pipeline. L47 would be reportedly built alongside the SM7 at RSM's Pusan plant for specifically targeted markets in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
