Toyota's Prius hybrid was the best-selling vehicle in Japan in August for the 15th consecutive month, according to data released by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Mini Vehicle Association.

The hybrid  sold a total of 22,263 units, helped by the government's tax breaks and subsidies for eco-friendly cars.

The Honda Fit (Jazz) was the second best-seller with 17,258 units, followed by Daihatsu's Tanto minicar on 14,783 with Suzuki's Wagon R in fourth place on 13,455 units.
