Warrendale PA, August 21, 2000- The SAE Strategic Alliance (SSA) will offer two sessions during the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International Off-Highway & Powerplant Congress & Exposition at the Midwest Express Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin September 11-13.

For more than 60 years, SAE has provided the latest technological advancements in the off-highway & powerplant industry. This event is the forum to learn about and display the latest technologies through a strong technical program reinforced by tie-in exhibits. This event is SAE's most informative and innovative event featuring leading OEMs and suppliers in construction, farm, agriculture and off-road
technologies.

Interactive J1040 ROPS Collaboration will be held Monday, Sept. 11, 2:00 p.m. The application of SAE J1040, Performance Criteria for Rollover Protective Structures (ROPS) for Construction, Earthmoving, Forestry and Mining Machines, is applied primarily for the designing and destructive testing of ROPS.

Through the auspices of SSA, a collaboration was established to develop a computer simulated J1040 ROPS standard. The embedded computer simulation will verify designs and certify ROPS structures without the need for destructive ROPS testing.

This session provides a project status update, including a description of the project phases, methodology for surveying industry, and developing an industry best practice and measures of success. It will be of particular interest to anyone that uses or
requires the use of J1040 to verify ROPS.

Presenters include the following: Caterpillar Inc., CNH Global N.V., Deere, Bobcat and Charles Machine Works.
