Statistics released on Tuesday (28/11/00) by the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) showed that automobile exports in October fell by 6.3% from the previous year (see table).

North American exports dropped for the second month in a row due to reduced sales in a toughening market and European figures were down for three consecutive months because of depreciation of the euro. But there was good news from Asia where exports rose by 37%.

Analysed by maker, Daihatsu, Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Nissan Diesel posted export increases while Honda and Mazda reported falls of over 20%.
