Nissan has announced it will add more safety technology to its vehicles by 2016.

New are low-cost sensor-based safety systems for lower priced models which will enable items like lane departure and blind spot warnings and collision prevention systems at the front and rear to be added.

The less expensive system will just use one camera whereas the expensive system uses millimetre-wave radar sensors and multiple cameras.

By 2013, Nissan will add forward-sensing camera systems to its models.

It is also planning predictive forward-sensing and accelerator-suppression systems by 2013.
