The Renault-Nissan Alliance said it sold 8,528,887vehicles in 2015, up almost 1% year on year, thanks to record sales in the United States, China and Europe.

Combined sales for the world's fourth largest car group comprising, Renault, Nissan Motor and AvtoVAZ were flat effectively in 2014 despite sharp declines in Russia and Brazil.

The alliance reckons it accounts for about one in 10 cars sold worldwide.

Renault sales were up 3.3% to a record 2,801,592 vehicles worldwide in a market that grew by 1.6%. Dacia volume was up 7.7% to a record 550,920 vehicles.

Renault, which claims to be the fastest-growing major brand in Europe, reached a market share of 10.1% in a market up 9.4%.

Nissan Motor sold a record 5,421,804 cars and trucks worldwide, up 2.1%. In each of its two biggest markets, the United States and China, the brand sold at least 1.25m vehicles. Infiniti accounted for a record 215,250 vehicles, up 16% year on year , thanks to record sales in all key regions including the Americas and China.

AvtoVAZ sold 305,491 Lada vehicles, down 31.5% due to the slump in Russia.

The Alliance and AvtoVAZ claim to sell about one in three cars in Russia.
