Nissan Motor on Thursday said its Sunderland plant in north-east England had brought forward its annual Christmas shutdown.

No production had been planned between tomorrow, 19 December, and 23 December but staff had been originally scheduled to go in for training and improvement activities.

But the company has now decided to give staff their annual Christmas break from today until Monday 5 January, a spokeswoman said.
