A total of 153,206 new cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) were sold in Hungary in the first three quarters of 2004, up 0.2% year-on-year, the Association of Hungarian Vehicle Importers (MGE) said, according to local reports.

Market leader was Suzuki, selling a total of 26,737 new cars and LCVs in the period from January to September 2004, down 14% year-on-year, MGE said. Suzuki's market share, however, dropped to 17.5% in the first nine months of 2004, from 20.3% in the year-ago period. Second ranked Opel with a total of 16,600 new car and LCV sales for the first three quarters of 2004, down 16% year-on-year. Opel's market share decreased to 10.9% in the period from 13% in the first nine months of 2003.

Third was Renault, selling 15,000 new cars and LCVs in the period.

In the period January to September 2004, Chevrolet/Daewoo managed to boost its market share to 7.2% from 5.1% for the year-ago period.
