Daimler's Mercedes-Benz said it had set a new sales record towards the end of this year despite a volatile market environment with November sales up 1.5% year on year to 198,545 vehicles.

In the first 11 months of the year, sales rose 0.4% to 2,103,653.

"With more than 198,000 vehicles delivered worldwide, Mercedes-Benz has achieved its best-ever November sales. In a challenging market environment, we've been able to increase unit sales slightly also since the beginning of the year," said sales chief Britta Seeger.

"In China, we have delivered more than 600,000 Mercedes-Benz and Smart vehicles since the beginning of this year. We are particularly pleased to be the first premium carmaker to achieve this sales milestone within a year."

In Europe, sales last month rose 2.6% to a record 82,007 but YTD volume was off 3.3% to 850,957.

Asia-Pacific region sales rose 1.5% last month to 75,392 and by 7.5% to 862,419 YTD. China sales last month were up 2.6% to 52,151 and YTD growth was 11.7% to 603,089 units.

NAFTA region November volume dipped 1.8% to 35,842 and by 5.4% to 340,564 YTD. US sales rose 0.6% to 31,022 last month but YTD were down 6% to 283,943.

YTD, Smart sales were off 3.8% to 118,512 worldwide.
