Toyota's Lexus was rated the most reliable of the 28 vehicle brands surveyed in the United States, Consumer Reports magazine said.

The luxury brand rose from third place in the previous year's rankings while Toyota remained second.

Honda's Acura brand jumped to the third spot from the seventh. Including the three brands, Japanese names shared seven of the top 10, Jiji Press noted.

Volswagen's Audi came fourth, and Geely's Volvo seventh, compared with the previous year's rankings in which Japanese brands dominated the top seven.

The rankings were based on a survey of 1.1m vehicles owned by readers of the influential magazine.
