With eyes clearly focused on its good performance here in Brazil, Land Rover has announced deliveries of the redesigned Discovery will start by late June, just three months after the start of sales in Europe. There will be four versions: SE, HSE, HSE Luxury and the special First Edition.

The British manufacturer is proud of the new, aluminium unitary structure weighing up to 480kg/1,058lb less than with the former body-on-chassis construction and a 17% Cd improvement (0.33 from 0.40). For the first time in the Discovery the (optional) Terrain Response 2 system monitors driving conditions and automatically selects the most appropriate mode.

Other technologies have been added, such as hill descent control, hill start assist, gradual restart control and wade sensing, this by means of sensors on the door mounted rear view mirrors sending real-time, graphical information through the monitoring system on vehicle-related water depth.

Power is from a 254bhp/600Nm V6 diesel and Brazilians will also be offered a 335bhp/450Nm V6 petrol instead.

The optional infotainment system is one of the more sophisticated models available today with a 10.2 inch tactile screen and Meridian audio featuring 17 speakers and 825 watts of power.

Prices range from BRL363,000/US$117,000 to BRL429,000/$138,000. The better equipped First Edition will sell for BRL469,000/$151,000.
