Bulgarian News Digest reports that a total of 1,076 new cars were sold in the country in January 2003, up from 928 cars sold in January 2002.

French carmaker Peugeot, which sold 198 cars, held the largest market share in Bulgaria's domestic car market. Czech car maker Skoda Auto, a unit of Germany's Volkswagen AG, came second with a total of 118 cars sold. Ford sold 97 cars, which ranked it third.

A total of 14,361 new cars were sold in Bulgaria in 2002, up 996 cars compared with 2001, according to data from the car importers' association.
