Q50L is unique long wheelbase model for China

Nissan’s upmarket Infiniti brand began production of a long-wheelbase version of the Q50 on Thursday (6 November) at the company’s Xiangyang plant in Hubei Province.

China, which the company says is one of its most important growth markets, joins the US and Japan as the third country where Infinitis are built.

Daniel Kirchert, president of Dongfeng Infiniti Motor and managing director of Infiniti China, said local production "demonstrates Infiniti's long-term commitment to the Chinese market".

The Xiangyang plant was jointly established by Dongfeng and Nissan and has an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles, 60,000 of which will be Infiniti models. A long wheelbase version of the QX50 will also be built at Xiangyang.

Infiniti is targeting 100,000 annual sales in the country by 2018 with more than half of those produced locally.

Infiniti’s January-September sales in China rose 91% to 20,800.
