Honda has announced that it achieved "zero" output of landfill waste at all of its domestic manufacturing plants in July, becoming the first such company in the Japanese automobile industry.
Honda has reached this target ahead of its scheduled time of March 31, 2002.

The realisation of the target was implemented through enhancing recycling of materials at each manufacturing stage, distinguishing and reusing waste, and in other ways, the automaker said.

In April 1998, Honda announced its "green factory concept" for environmental activities related to manufacturing.

In September 1999, Honda's factory in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, became the first facility in the Japanese automobile industry to achieve 'zero' landfill waste output, Honda said

The company said it is working on improving recycling at its manufacturing facilities, including such methods as unifying plastic resin materials and recycling aluminum waste.
