French Industry Minister Eric Besson said he had been reassured by undertakings by PSA Peugeot Citroen that the carmaker has no plans to close factories in the country.

Besson met with PSA chief executive Philippe Varin and the industry minister told RTL Radio, they had discussed the rumoured closing of the Aulnay-sous-Bois plant in the Paris suburbs.

He was told by Varin that this was a working hypothesis and that there was currently "no operational project" to close the plant.

Besson told RTL such a plan would be "unacceptable" for the French government which heavily supported the car making industry during the last economic crisis.
