Goodyear Canada today announced the launch of Truckwise -- the industry's first integrated network of ISO 9002 registered truck tire service and retreading centers.

Goodyear Canada President, Wayne Barnes, introduced the new service network at a special ceremony in Toronto attended by the Hon. David Turnbull, Minister of Transportation for the Province of Ontario.

The national service network, which is made up of elite Goodyear commercial tire dealers, sets the industry's highest quality and training standards for truck tire service. Truckwise offers truckers the convenience of a single source for new tires, retreading, maintenance and 24-hour emergency roadside service.

By 2001, Truckwise Centers will be the first network of truck tire service and retreading facilities in North America that are ISO 9002 registered. Each location in the network has the same stringent quality management processes and service technicians -- without exception - - participate in multi-year training related to every aspect of service.

"The Truckwise concept supports the work done by the Ontario government and Ontario Trucking Association to make our roads safer," says Barnes. "This new service network responds to a recommendation of the Target '97 Task Force that commercial vehicle maintenance standards be linked to safety. A key training component of Truckwise builds upon Ontario's commercial vehicle wheel retention training and certification program. Because training is standardized, Ontario's safety standards, which are the most rigorous in Canada, will be exported across the country."

By 2001, Goodyear Canada will have 48 Truckwise centers in operation across Canada, including seven in Atlantic Canada, 15 in Quebec, 18 in Ontario and eight in Western Canada.

The new service network will strengthen Goodyear Canada's commercial tire business. The company's goal is to increase its commercial tire sales at twice the industry rate of growth.

"Truckwise offers service that is fast, easy-to-access and affordable," says Barnes. "It's what the industry needs to minimize downtime, maximize tire performance and lower operating costs. With Truckwise, fleet operators need no longer contend with multiple service providers and quality and training standards that differ from location to location.

"Truckwise is a win/win for the industry and the motoring public," says Barnes. "The service network will enhance competitiveness and contribute to safer roadways for all."

Goodyear supplies truck tires as original equipment to a number of truck manufacturers, offers a wide range of replacement tires to meet the needs of commercial carriers and independent drivers and is one of North America's largest retreaders of medium radial commercial truck tires.
