Ford is offering discounts on its new aluminium bodied F-150 pickup in the US to boost sales.

"Up to US$10,029 in total savings" is being offered in some parts of the US on 2015 F-150 XLT SuperCab 4X4s with sport package or luxury chrome. In other parts, the discount being offered is $7,050.

According to Autodata, the model's share in the big pickup market declined to 28% in June 2015 from 33% in June 2014, Bloomberg reported.

Akshay Anand, an analyst at Kelley Blue Book, said: "The truck hasn't sold up to expectations for the most part.

"This may be a hint that in certain parts of the country, the issue might just be more than supply. What will be more telling is whether the incentives start to go out nationwide. If limited to higher end trims and packages, this may not have a huge effect for the moment, as a truck still makes plenty of profit."
