Ford China sold 45,162 wholesale vehicles in May, a 14% increase compared to May 2010.

For the first five months of the year the automaker sold 230,068 wholesale units, a 15% increase from the same period a year ago.

With 16,756 wholesale units sold in May, Ford Focus sales rose 33% rise compared to last year. Ford Mondeo also saw a jump in sales with 6,005 wholesale units sold, a 46% increase from May last year.

Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), Ford's passenger vehicle joint-venture in China, reported 32,996 wholesale unit sales in May, a 19% increase year-on-year.

Ford's commercial vehicle investment in China, Jiangling Motors Corp (JMC) announced 90,055 wholesale unit sales for the January-May period, a 23% increase from the same period last year.

Ford Transit made a strong contribution with sales of 25,422 units, also a 23% increase compared to the same period in 2010.

CFMA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chongqing Municipal Government last month for its first transmission plant in China, to support Ford's growth plan.

The plant, scheduled to begin production in 2013, will have initial annual capacity of 400,000 units.
