Ford sales in China rose 7% year on year to 240,900 vehicles in the first nine months of 2008.

The passenger car joint venture Chang'an Ford Automobile sold 159,833 vehicles compared with 150,521 last year.

The Jiangling Motors commercial JV boosted Transit van sales 11% to 75,496.

Ford's Q3 new model launches included five- and seven-seat S-Max minivans, an upgraded Mondeo and the 2009 Focus. It has now sold over 300,000 units since the line was launched in China in 2003.

Robert Graziano, president and CEO of Ford China, said slowing growth in the third quarter was due largely to the global financial crisis.
