The Ford Focus model has become - according to Ford - the world`s best-selling car after a little over a year-and-a-half in production, reports Associated Press (24/7/00).

The company sold around 228,000 within the period from December through to April in about 60 countries, outselling the previous top-selling car - the VW Golf - by 24,000. Since the month of April, Ford also increased North American production, with the company rolling off its millionth Focus in June, in Cologne, Germany.

Unlike General Motors and the Chrysler side of DaimlerChrysler AG, Ford is selling the Focus in the US without rebates.
