Approximately 25,000 vehicles will be imported to Mexico from the European Union during the first year that the Mexico-EU free trade agreement is in effect.

Vehicles produced by firms with operations in Mexico and the European Union -- such as Ford, Chrysler and General Motors -- are not included in the quota.

Instead, such vehicles likely will be made by Toyota, Fiat, Peugeot and Saab. Domestic vehicles sales for the current year are estimated at 780,000 to 800,000 units.
