Daimler Trucks Asia said it was combining the activities of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) for further sales growth in Asia and Africa.

It will spend an additional EUR300m to extend sales networks and factories for Fuso and BharatBenz brand trucks from 2014 to 2018.

By 2020, it plans to sell around 290,000 units a year of both worldwide.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles was first to launch new Fuso models in May 2013. These vehicles will be launched successively in 15 export markets – Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Zambia, the Seychelles, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand and Uganda. More markets are under scrutiny.

Daimler said southeast Asia markets have "significant" potential for the long term. According to external forecasts, annual truck sales for the entire region are expected to grow by about 20 to 30% until 2020. In the same period, the African continent truck market promises growth of 5-10% a year.
