German automotive supplier Continental will invest $61.5m in a plant in Costa Rica that will make control units for engines and transmissions, it told Reuters on Wednesday.

The plant would open late next year and employ 550 people by 2011, making 1m units a year for double-clutch transmissions in the North American market by then, the news agency added.
