Chevrolet sales in western and central Europe from January to September 2012 rose 2.3% year on year to 157,000 cars while the overall market was down 8%.

The brand's European market share was up by 0.13 points at 1.34%, based on share gains in 19 European countries.

In western Europe Chevrolet sold 122,300 cars, an increase of 3.1%.

"In the current economic climate Chevrolet has seen record share and sales growth as European customers are more value-conscious than ever," said Susan Docherty, president of Chevrolet Europe.

Chevrolet's best-selling vehicle in Europe in the first nine months of 2012 was the Aveo city car, with sales of 45,650 units, followed by the Spark mini car of which 40,370 units were sold.

The US-built Camaro accounted for 1,800 sales.

Chevrolet Europe sold 157,0001 cars in Western and Central Europe2 from January to September 2011, an increase of 2.3 percent (or 3,500 units), compared to the year earlier period (2012: 153,500 cars), while the industry was down 8.0 percent. Chevrolet's European market share was up by 0.13 points at 1.34 percent, based on share gains in 19 European countries. In Western Europe Chevrolet sold 122,300 cars, an increase of 3,650 cars or 3.1 percent.

"In the current economic climate Chevrolet has seen record share and sales growth as European customers are more value-conscious than ever. Buyers are turning to new Chevrolet models because we are giving them what they demand: distinctive design and all the equipment they are looking for at a price they can afford. In short, a lot of car for their money," said Susan Docherty, President of Chevrolet Europe.

"With the launch of ten new models in the last one-and-a-half years, and cars like the Cruze station wagon, Chevrolet has become a truly relevant alternative for European customers," Docherty added.

Chevrolet recorded its best-ever market share, for the January to September period, in the following seven countries: Poland (3.37%), Slovenia (2.91%), Turkey (2.61%), Estonia, (1.75%), Austria (1.27%), France (1.11%) and Germany (0.90%).

Five countries achieved an all-time sales record for Chevrolet for the January-September 2012 period: France (19,490 cars), the Netherlands (8,390 cars), Poland (8,340 cars), Austria (3,790 cars) and Switzerland (2,940 cars).

In Israel3, Chevrolet sold 7,200 vehicles and achieved a market share of 4.26 percent during the first nine months of 2012.

Chevrolet's best-selling vehicle in Europe in the first nine months of 2012 was the Chevrolet Aveo city car, with sales of 45,650 units. Aveo was followed by the Chevrolet Spark mini car of which 40,370 units were sold. Chevrolet sold 29,620 Cruzes (sedan, hatchback and station wagon) in Western and Central Europe. Cruze continues to be Chevrolet's best-selling model globally and sales are expected to grow even further as the station wagon was just launched. Chevrolet sold 18,950 Captiva SUVs and 18,780 Orlando minivans. The Chevrolet Camaro sports car sold 1,800 times in Europe.
