The 2017 Brussels motor show has taken place, with the facelifted Jaguar F-TYPE the main debutante.

There are minor exterior changes for Jaguar's model year 2018 hatchback and convertible range, with the headlights the most obvious. Inside, JLR's Touch Pro infotainment system is the main news. New, thinner seats mean more room too.

There is no sign of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium variants which had been expected to be added at the time of this beautiful but none-too-successful model's mid-life makeover. There is however a 400PS version of JLR's Ford-built supercharged 3.0-litre V6 as a new engine.

The update for the F-TYPE comes a few days after JLR announced a strong year for Jaguar in 2016. The division delivered 148,730 vehicles in 2016, a year-on-year surge of 77 per cent.

Jaguar's performance is mainly due to the F-PACE (45,973 worldwide sales) which is now the brand's best seller due of course, to the lack of an estate bodystyle for the XE range. In common with the XF, that car has been a good seller, if not a great one.

The one other show premiere was the facelifted Skoda Octavia. The update was announced by Skoda in October, with sales commencing from December.

The facelifted RS/vRS was then announced just before year end. Both body styles have two four-cylinder engines to choose from. While the 2.0 TDI diesel engine has the same 135kW (184 hp) output as previously, the output of the 2.0 TSI petrol engine rose by 7kW (10hp) to 16kW (230hp), which is the same as the previous RS 230 limited edition.
