Dana Corporation has announced that it has been selected by BMW Group as an intended production supplier of axle components for a future BMW vehicle platform.

Dana plans to support BMW with the design and production of front and rear differentials for the programme, which will be based in the United States. The selection adds to Dana's increasing business with North American transplant manufacturers.

The systems include a variety of features for high quality, performance, and durability, including low-transmission-error drive gears; luxury-car-type bearing diameters; low-backlash dimensional control; and vehicle-correlated end-of-line noise testing.

``We are tremendously excited by this new opportunity to leverage the expertise of our Traction Technologies Group in support of a premium customer like BMW,'' said Joe Magliochetti, Dana chairman and CEO. ``This is an exciting, innovative vehicle platform, and we are delighted to be a part of it.''

``It is always good news when one of the world's most prestigious vehicle manufacturers recognizes your quality and technology by choosing you as its supplier-partner,'' said Bill Carroll, president of Dana's Automotive Systems Group. ``But it's even more rewarding knowing that we were selected after going head-to-head with other suppliers in a comprehensive and competitive review process.

``By becoming a global partner with our customers, we are able to offer them the many resources and technological advances expected from a global engineering and technology leader,'' he added.

The drive units will be produced by Dana's Traction Technologies Group, which consists of 25 manufacturing, assembly, and research facilities in 16 countries.
