BMW Group Malaysia has begun exporting locally-assembled Minis to Thailand under the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA).

The cars are assembled at Inokom Corporation's plant in Kulim, Kedah, under the close supervision of BMW Group Malaysia.

Inokom is a joint venture controlled by the local Sime Darby group, with Hyundai Motor and Berjaya Auto among its shareholders. Inokom also assembles vehicles for BMW, Mazda, Foton and Hyundai.

The Mini models exported include the Mini Cooper S Countryman and the Mini Cooper S Countryman High-Trim, priced at THB2.29m (US$69,000) and THB2.49m respectively.

In May, BMW Group Malaysia and Sime Darby opened a jointly owned engine assembly plant, also in Kulim, producing engines for BMW's assembly operations across south-east Asia, including Malaysia.

Last year, BMW Group Malaysia opened a new Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Malaysia at the Free Industrial Zone of the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru, also serving markets across the region.
