The Economic Times of India says that India's fast-growing automotive market is attracting Russian carmaker AvtoVAZ, planning to enter under the Lada brand.

The newspaper said that Lada is fine tuning plans to establish a base in India to sell its range of passenger cars and utility vehicles. The firm is in advanced talks with the Hoshiarpur-based International Tractors for entering the Indian market. "We are in negotiations with International Tractors and will finalise our plans for the Indian market soon," Lada's foreign market development head Boris Shevchenko told the Economic Times of India.

"We are now in the process of identifying the right vehicle for the market," he added.

The report also speculates that Lada's Niva utility vehicle and 110 and 112 range of passenger cars are among the front-runners for India.
