The top five companies accounted for 14% of patenting activity

Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Raytheon Technologies filed the most 3D printing patents within the automotive industry in Q2 2023. The company filed 4 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 6 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Cie Generale des Etablissements Michelin with 4 3D printing patent filings, Airbus (3 filings), and Porsche Automobil Holding (3 filings) in Q2 2023.

Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 48% share of total patent filings

The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the automotive industry in Q2 2023 was in the US with 48%, followed by China (19%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by the US was 7% higher than the 41% share it accounted for in Q1 2023.
