Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations, with a share of 15% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the North American auto industry in Q4 2023 , ahead of Sales and Related Occupations with a 9% share of new job postings.

The other prominent roles included Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 9% share in Q4 2023, Management Occupations with an 8% share and Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies accounted for 29% of hiring activity

Tesla posted 4,521 jobs in Q4 2023 and registered a decline of 14% over the previous quarter, followed by Genuine Parts with 3,054 jobs and a 38% drop. Lithia Motors, with 2,636 jobs, and AutoNation, with 2,500 jobs, recorded a 17% drop and a 35% drop, respectively, while Penske Truck Leasing Co recorded a 61% decline with a 2,391 new job postings during Q4 2023.

Regional analysis of hiring in the North American auto industry, Q4 2023

The US held the leading share of the North American auto hiring activity with a 90.59% share, a 40% decrease over Q3 2023. Mexico was next with 6.00%, four-percentage-point down over the previous quarter.
