Punch Powertrain on a rapid growth track

Punch Powertrain is a transmission supplier that’s creeping up on the rails of the more established suppliers such as Aisin, JATCO and ZF and is providing them with stiff competition. Since 2013 it’s achieved average annual growth of around 50% and has plans to take its capacity from 1.2 million units at the end of this year to over 3 million units by 2020. It’s headquartered at Sint-Truiden in Belgium and is a major supplier of CVTs to Chinese domestic OEMs from its manufacturing plant in Nanjing, China.

ZF ramps up R&D spend on AD technologies

ZF recently presented its next steps on the road to autonomous driving. Its supercomputer, ProAI, acts as a central control unit within a test vehicle and with this ZF is taking a modular approach to the development of automated driving functions. The goal is a system architecture that can be applied to any vehicle and tailored according to the application, available hardware and desired level of automation. To find out more, we spoke to Torsten Gollewski, Head of Advanced Engineering at ZF and Managing Director of the ZF venture capital company, Zukunft Ventures GmbH.
