BMW AG future models - Rolls-Royce

Until COVID-19 hit, Rolls-Royce was starting to perform at a level which BMW AG had demanded of it. Thanks to the addition of the Cullinan, sales exceeded 5,000 vehicles in 2019 compared to the previous record of 4,107 in 2018. With the Chinese economy back in expansionary mode, 2020 might not even be that bad a year for the luxury car maker.

Having expanded the Mini range earlier this decade, BMW says its aim is now to fully focus on profitability. Deliveries dipped by 3.9 per cent in the first half of 2019 to 174,344 units. Considering the steep fall of the Chinese market that's a good result. As for Rolls-Royce, a record 2018 may even be beaten in 2019, the total for H1 being 2,534 cars, a year-on-year surge of +42.3 per cent.

Rolls-Royce stops production for at least four weeks

Following parent company BMW's announcement earlier it was suspending output at plants in Europe and South Africa, Rolls-Royce said production at its Goodwood manufacturing plant would be shuttered from Monday 23 March for two weeks and, "in order to further secure the health and welfare of the employees of the company", that suspension would be followed by a previously planned two week Easter maintenance shutdown.
