The latest generation compact crossover is the first Vauxhall model to feature its Pure Panel digital instrument display. An integrated display contains both the digital instrument panel and the central touchscreen. The design helps reduce the need for multiple buttons and controls, allowing drivers to maintain concentration on the road.
The Pure Panel is available in two formats, depending on trim level. Entry versions feature a 7-inch digital instrument panel with a 7-inch central touch screen. Premium versions feature a 12-inch digital instrument panel along with a 10-inch central colour touchscreen.
The cabin is cloaked in a rich mix of materials, touches of brushed chrome and plenty of hi-tech equipment. The upmarket textiles cover the door-card inserts, headliner, windscreen pillars and dashboard inlay. There are also powered and heated wing mirrors and an (optional) panoramic roof.
Size-wise, the Mokka measures 4,151mm long, 1,791mm wide (excluding the mirrors) and 1,531mm tall. Compared to the previous model it is 124mm shorter and 10mm wider, while the wheelbase has been increased by 2mm. Continuing the space theme, the front door bins are wide and deep enough to store a large plastic water bottle. The rear door bins, however, are less accommodating.
For the driver and front-seat passenger perched on six-way manually adjustable seats, there is ample head and legroom. Yet tall rear-seat passengers in this family car may feel squeezed due to the sloping roof and some quite thick front seatbacks, thereby limiting head and knee room. The relatively small rear side windows further inhibit viewing and, coupled with the dark cabin fabric, can make it feel a little claustrophobic.
Further back, despite the smaller dimensions, boot capacity remains nearly identical to the previous Mokka iteration. With the rear seats up, the has up to 350 litres of boot space, extending to 1,105 litres with the 60/40 split rear seat row folded.
Connectivity and infotainment
On the connectivity front, all Mokka models come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, DAB radio, hands-free calls via the steering wheel, and SMS readout and reply functionality.
Vauxhall Connect is available across all Nav models and comes with its e-Call and bCall emergency features. In the event of a breakdown, the b-Call button puts drivers in touch with a trained advisor who will assist in organising a breakdown recovery service. The e-Call button can be pressed in an emergency, with the system connecting the driver to its trained advisers. The system will also automatically alert the emergency services if the airbags or seatbelt tensioners deploy in an accident. Through Vauxhall Connect, drivers can also access remote functions such as locking and unlocking the car via their smartphone or pre-condition the cabin.
Advanced driver assistance systems
Mokka comes with an array of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technologies, including automatic emergency city braking, cruise control, speed limiter, forward collision alert, speed sign recognition, driver drowsiness alert and lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist.
Other features are also available throughout the Mokka range, including lane positioning assistant, adaptive cruise control, side blind-spot alert and flank guard, panoramic rear-view camera, advanced park assist and keyless entry and start.

SRi Nav Premium models come with the upgraded Multimedia Navi Pro system with a 10inch colour touchscreen and 12-inch driver instrument panel. There are also dark tinted rear windows, adaptive cruise control and keyless entry and start. Elite Nav Premium models feature Vauxhall’s Multimedia Navi Pro system as well as a heated steering wheel and front seats, and rain-sensitive windscreen wipers. Launch Edition models add a wireless mobile phone charger, alloy sports pedals and massage functionality for the driver’s seat.
The Mokka is available as a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) or with a choice of two turbocharged petrol engines or a 1.5-litre turbodiesel.
On balance, the eye-catching cabin looks fantastic with its angular dash and fancy switchgear and comes with a generous list of standard equipment, clever safety technology and an intuitive infotainment system. How the ‘Pure Panel’ central touchscreen seamlessly integrates with the instrumentation and accentuates its high-tech appearance helps this model stand out in a crowded marketplace. Rival models include the VW T-Cross, Peugeot 2008 and Ford Puma.
