2021 Goodwood FoS – vehicle world debuts

The 2021 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed took place between 8 and 11 July inclusive. Several manufacturers had vehicle world premieres at this annual event which is held near Chichester in the south of England.

The Toyota GR 86 was revealed in April and had its dynamic debut at the FoS. Deliveries for the Japanese market – the first one – are due to commence in October.

Genesis showed the G70 Shooting Brake as a global debut, the Hyundai luxury division also attending for the first time.

This wagon version of the soon to be four-year old model will not be sold in the brand’s number one market though, there being little demand for such cars in the USA. The SB is instead be available mainly in Europe, a region where the brand is being introduced at present: the UK, Germany and Switzerland only at first. The example on display was even right-hand drive.

For BMW, the 2 Series Coupé was the first of the brand’s models to have had a global debut at a Festival of Speed. G42 joins the 2 Series Gran Coupé but there reportedly won’t be a successor for the 2 Series Cabriolet.

Another premiere was the final edition of the aged Lamborghini Aventador. Called LP 780-4 Ultimae, the supercar is available as both a coupé and roadster. Power is stated as being 780 cv and drive is to both axles.

Having revealed the Emira at a special event at its Hethel HQ on 6 July, Lotus gave the sports car its dynamic debut at the Festival, a prototype also being displayed and unlocked for the public to see and touch.

‘Type 131’ (the development code) will be be offered with two engine choices: a four-cylinder Mercedes-AMG 2.0-litre turbo or a supercharged 3.5-litre Toyota V6. The first deliveries are as far off as (N.H.) ‘spring’ 2022. Four cylinder cars will follow in ‘summer’.

Not a new model as such but what the brand calls an Experimental Polestar 2 was displayed for the first time at a formal event. Power is quoted as 350 kW with the car being driven by chief chassis engineer Joakim Rydholm. The track is wider and so too are the wheel arches, while the height is lower than to revised suspension.

Other static or dynamic world debuts included the Ineos Grenadier, McLaren Artura, Rimac Nevera, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and Aston Martin Valkyrie.
