Blog: Dave LeggettUrban mobility

Dave Leggett | 7 May 2014

As the population of the world decamps from the countryside to work in factories in emerging "megacities", how the evolving city functions efficiently and how goods and people move around sustainably (and without gridlock) are sure to be constant accompanying themes. As issues with traffic congestion and air quality in Chinese cities illustrate, this is certainly not just a so-called "first world problem".

Connectivity technology can increasingly help with things like modal integration on journeys and real-time updates. I must admit, I am quite excited by the idea of knowing where the buses are and how long I have to wait (hell no, it's not all glamour for me).

And, talking of updates, the urban mobility team at Frost & Sullivan have their annual event coming up in London. We'll be there. I see it's returning to the Honorouble Artillery Company on June 25. Now that is one surreal venue. A rural oasis in the heart of the City of London. You can play cricket there. There's something nice about discovering a place that logic and economics would suggest should have been concreted over and turned into commercial space a long time ago - but has been respectfully left alone.

Anyway, it should be a stimulating and fun event. Below is a nicely done short promo film from F&S that neatly summarises the different elements in this topic.
