I'm up to London today. Couple of meetings and lunch at the House of Lords with fellow Guild of Motoring Writers members, as guest of the Rt.Hon. Lord Montagu of Beaulieu (a Guild member). Should be an interesting experience. The House of Lords is a curious anachronism in a modern democratic society. The institution is an undemocratic chamber stuffed with hereditary Lords, who have no claim on their position other than birthright. Reform is coming, but pretty slowly. That said, the House of Lords does a reasonable job as a check on the House of Commons. People don't get angry about it. They get more angry about people being appointed in a patronage sort of way. Sunny and cool outside. Nice spring day to be out and about.
