Blog: The axe falls on Chery Auto's multiple brands

Chery recently launched a new QQ, which, according to a press release, is "the mini king of China"
There have been reports about this before, but it does now appear that Chery Auto really has decided to shut down its Karry, Rely and Riich brands. All that will remain will be Chery, and Qoros.
A recent report in China Business News quotes Chery's general manager speaking at the launch of the updated QQ minicar: "As far as the subcompact market is concerned, [Chery] has [planned] no other models." The publication then adds a quote from another executive, Huang Huaqiong: "We will focus our resources to release exemplary products for each segment [and] will return to a single brand strategy."One presumes that excludes Qoros.
Let's see which cars are displayed on Chery's stand at AutoShanghai next month. Then we'll know for sure what exactly is meant by the above statements.
I'm starting to get a small idea of the scale of things here in China, but really, I'm only scratching the surface of this vast country....
