In an election year in the US, it's not too surprising that the subject of the auto industry will enter the fray of political debate.

The government bailouts of GM and Chrysler are just one aspect. And that is something that deserves to be discussed and debated. There was not, I recall, a complete political consensus at the time. The auto industry should be at the heart of the political debate on what sort of economy the US should be striving for and the vision that politicians present.

Let's hope it's an intelligent debate. And on that note, I have seen something from GM in reaction to what one politician has been saying about the Volt...
