GM has just given the Chevy Volt its local market launch at China's Guangzhou motor show, revealing a sticker price of Yuan 498,000 at the same time. Import duties of course are responsible but does Shanghai GM really think it will sell more than a handful of these cars in China? Perhaps the answer is more to do with politics and marketing than profits: let's not forget that GM agreed to a new venture to develop EVs with SAIC back in September, plus of course displaying the Volt in rich-city dealerships will no doubt generate much publicity for Chevrolet as a 'green' brand.
