Blog: SMMT dinner

I'm up to the Hilton on London's Park Lane this evening for dinner. I'll be there with around 900 others - it's the annual SMMT dinner. It's one of those grand affairs where you have to dress up, so I'll have to see if I can find a Dickie Bow and make myself halfway presentable. I am a guest on the PSA Peugeot-Citroen table with a clutch of journalists from the national and trade press, including Rob Golding, so there should be no shortage of lively conversation.
Ford design man Peter Horbury will be giving a speech and he will be followed by Sebastian Coe (former middle-distance runner and Olympic champion). I wonder if Lord Coe will be speaking about the London Olympics in 2012 (he led the London bid)? But, if he does, what spin will he put on it for this audience? I expect that by the time he is speaking, it really won't matter and he'll get thunderous applause anyway.
