Blog: Dave LeggettSmall Volvos

The pictures of the new Volvo S40 look pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing the 'free floating' central console in the flesh. But will the car succeed in broadening the appeal of Volvos to younger customers? That's the big question. I know that Volvo has been trying to move away from a brand image fashioned by its historically sturdy but staid and boxy products. But the C70 coupe hasn't been a raging success in the marketplace and to most people the Volvo name is still a little dull (sorry if that sounds harsh) - the IKEA of the motoring world. Good design, safe, dependable - not exactly sexy. I can't see the new model changing that fundamentally, but those core brand values are not all negative. S40 looks nice to me though.
