Blog: Personalised billboards

This is an interesting initiative from Castrol with selected billboards in London. A camera reads your car's registration plate, the Department of Transport database is interrogated and the billboard tells you what grade of engine oil you ought to be using (and Castrol brand per chance?). The interesting thing about this is how quickly it purports to work. It might become a series of rapid-fire indeterminate flashes in heavy traffic though? How about letting people know their road tax has expired or that the guy in front has no insurance? Of course, it'll be even better when the face recognition cameras come and the billboard tells you it's time for a dental check-up or that your library books are late.
