There are some interesting observations and thoughts from Mark Bursa today on the question of what might become of GM's European operations. Just as things are rather 'messy' in the US, the GM fallout in Europe is not straightforward either. How ironic would it be if the East German Eisenach plant - a symbol of modern efficiency and regeneration after German unification, allied to (back then) low-costs - were to shut? And how well would the idea of shutting German Opel plants go down with German politicians being lobbied for financial assistance?
