For all the talk of a global vehicle market and segmentation convergence, the differences across the globe are still striking. Operating conditions, market preferences - these things differ quite a bit. Ford's Transit (Europe) and Econoline (North America) might be thought of as a good case for some product rationalisation. We're talking vans here remember. Boxes on wheels. But alas, the respective market requirements for each vehicle have made a future engineering integration to one vehicle unattractive for Ford. The compromises would have presumably been too great. The idea is not entirely dead, but it sounds as if the current one van solution is.
