Fiat supreme Sergio Marchionne is a pretty busy chap with his day job. But he is also on the board of UBS and I’m told he is emerging as a pivotal figure in the battle over the Swiss bank’s future. Marchionne has apparently become the talisman for investors demanding sweeping reforms, including a potential spin-off of the company's investment-banking arm.
As an independent board member he’s not seen as a UBS ‘insider’ naturally resistant to reforms or changes to strategy. With his Fiat track record, Marchionne clearly poses a force to be reckoned with wherever he goes.
